鄂西北黄龙滩水电站混凝土重力坝,最大坝高107米,正常高水位247米时,库容10.2亿立米。1969年开始作施工准备,1974年5月开始发电,1976年基本完建。1979年汛期,水库达到正常高水位,并在水位24 7~248.71米之间运行了一段时间,大坝运行情况正常。坝址工程地质条件复杂,坝基为古老的正,付结晶片岩。正、付片岩穿插频繁,且在接触处普遍存在硅化、云母化、录泥化等蚀变现象,构成软弱带。软弱带宽度一般0.5米左右,最大宽度可达3~4米。软弱带变形模量5,000~10,000公斤/厘米~3,饱和抗压强度不到100公斤/厘米~2。坝基内虽无规模较大的断裂构造,但节理裂隙十分发育、部分夹泥严重。
