Legend of Jack Welch Born 19 November 1935 in Salem, Mass., University of Massachusetts in 1957 with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois, in 1960. Joined General Electric (GE) Plastic Business Unit in 1960. In late 1971, Welch became General Manager of GE's Chemical and Metallurgy Division. 1979 August Vice President of General Motors. In April 1981, Welch, 45, became GE's youngest chairman and CEO in history. When Welch first time GM, GM's only lighting, engine and power division to maintain the leading position in the market. Today, 12 business units are among the best in their respective markets and, if ranked individually, 9 GE divisions are among the Fortune 500. From his 20 years into the GE, miraculously GE's market value of 450 billion US dollars, an increase of more than 30 times the rankings from the United States promoted to the second in the world, he himself became the world's most admired Business leaders - the world's first CEO.
