早在1996年中国嘉德国际拍卖公司就曾尝试着推出新中国美术作品(1949-1979年)拍卖专场,但不管是成交金额还是成交率都很不理想,所以在推出两年后无疾而终。在2003年又试着在周末拍卖会中推出日本私人珍藏的当代书画专场,本次拍卖所有拍品全部是以无底价起拍,最终以100%的成交率点燃了当代书画投资的“星星之火“。到了2005年春季拍实会,相继有中国嘉德,北京翰海、中贸圣佳、北京荣宝、北京华辰、上海崇源等各大拍卖公司争相推出当代中国书画专场,这标志着当代书画再次进入投资者的视线,当代书画投资已成“燎原之势”。
