When building a hydropower station, the closure of huge rivers is a serious hydraulic engineering task. Many technical difficulties due to changing the direction of water flow are of great interest to hydraulic engineers. In the planning of the closure project of the Volga River, several options have been considered. The options can be divided into two types: one is that the closure works must be stopped and the other is that the closure works need not be stopped. Considering the great national economic significance of shipping and rafting on the Volga River and the desire to be able to intercept the river at any time after the flood (considering only the status of major structures of the water conservancy hub), a solution that does not affect the interests of shipping by river closure works has been taken.
