Objective To compare the different walking speeds of healthy and hemiplegic patients when walking at the most comfortable speed of their own choice so as to determine whether the “self-selection of walking speed” in patients with hemiplegia after stroke is a reliable indicator to test the walking function and analyze Its relevance to other functional tests. Methods Eighteen patients with hemiplegia who had suffered more than one year of stroke were enrolled in regular rehabilitation training (average 4.9 months). All patients were able to walk indoors. Six of them needed walking sticks. Subjects did not have severe clinical instability and no perception of cognitive impairment, including memory deficits or other disorders that could affect gait. Another 11 healthy people as control group. Patients and control groups every 2min walk at a comfortable speed of choice for 30m, a total of 4 times, with a stopwatch record total 30m and 10m walking time in the middle, whichever is the average. Repeat after 2h, test all
