The purpose of this paper is to introduce the reader to contemporary trends in French teaching as a foreign language and how these new trends are embodied in a comprehensive textbook compiled by French-speaking professionals. In the last quarter of this century, the focus of French teaching as a foreign language has shifted to practice language acquisition. In view of this, a series of comprehensive companion textbooks based on communicative approach are being stepped up. For example, an elementary synthesis textbook for children (5-8 years) learning French (as a foreign language) was prepared: “... il était unepetite grenouille”; for adolescents and older students
