麦茨式电影符号学在西方的确走入了死胡同,但不能把麦茨式电影符号学等同于电影符号学本身。电影符号学要重新出发,前提是对电影符号学的如下基本问题作出合理的回答:(1)就学科现状来看,电影符号学虽在西方式微,但在当代中国获得了新的学术生命力,其学术观点开始向国外逆向传播,产生了相当的国际影响力;(2)从电影语言角度切入,将镜头及其剪辑作为电影符号学研究对象,既遵从电影的本性,又能借助符号学的观照,解决学科研究对象模糊的问题;(3)今天建设电影符号学,应该从传统电影理论与现代电影理论中学习经验、汲取教训,而不是厚此薄彼,简单化地以语言符号学般的严密体系去贬抑传统电影理论与创作实践血肉相连的品格,进而为语言符号学化的电影符号学寻求正当性,这样对传统电影理论是不公平的,对未来的电影创作实践是没有益处的,很可能使电影符号学研究迷失大方向,对理论建设本身也是有害的;(4)从学科归属角度看,中国的电影符号学研究还是应该把根扎在电影上,以尊重电影的本性为前提,避免将电影抽干的哲学化倾向以及机械挪用语言学的倾向;(5)从学科渊源看,我们一直在美国学派与法国学派之间摇摆,我国电影符号学研究一开始就深受结构主义、语言学、精神分析学等各种“大理论”的深度浸染,但要使电影符号学获得健康发展,似乎更应侧重“中层范围”的电影研究。
