先秦时期,孔孟儒学泽被金乡,人杰地灵的金乡从此儒风长存。两汉时期金乡地区贤达辈出,魏晋南北朝盛行私人讲学。范式、丁恭、仲长统等一大批士人走出金乡,对中国文化、政治产生了重大影响。特别是汉魏两晋南北时期的文化、政治显族山阳王氏、高平鄱氏和檀氏,更是代有英才,王导、王羲之、王粲、王弼、郗鉴、郗超、檀道济等对当时的政治、文化产生了深远影响。《金乡县志》载,儒学“唐开元时在县治西”.这就是山阳书院的前身。研究认为,金乡儒学可能最初建于唐贞观四年(公元630年)
