中国历史上三大名锦,蜀锦最有人气,云锦最为贵气,而宋锦尽显文人雅士之韵,最有人文气,有“锦绣之冠”之名号。宋锦表现高雅的文化艺术内涵,自它诞生那天起,就向世人昭示,民间手工艺也能和书画艺术结成一体,然而这也注定了其高处不胜寒的命运,相比名声显赫的蜀锦和云锦,宋锦显得悄声无息,知者寥寥。2006年苏州宋锦织造技艺列入第一批国家级非物质文化遗产名录,2009年宋锦作为中国蚕桑丝织技艺入选世界非物质文化遗产。
