A microcomputer-controlled device for determining the current distribution on a flat sample immersed in an electrolyte is described: by scanning two Luggin tube probes, the plane of the solution near and parallel to the surface of the sample is measured The horizontal and vertical potential changes. Two probes were connected to a microcomputer input to analyze the current distribution and display a current graph on the CRT display. This device has been used to study typical galvanic and pitting corrosion. The current plot obtained for the copper-zinc galvanic coupons shows that zinc dissolves rapidly along the copper-zinc boundary. The change over time in the current plot obtained from commercial aluminum clearly demonstrates the onset and growth of pitting. Therefore, the apparatus developed in this study can be widely used in the field to measure the local corrosion current, as well as to identify the corrosion location on the sample.
