沙曼翁先生为我国著名书法家,篆刻艺术家。他长期以来对篆刻艺术理论和实践进行了深入的研究,对历代著名书法家的特色,各时代书法的体势、风格,以及如何辨别书体源流、变迁原因等方面的研究,都非常精辟。沙曼翁先生的作品丰富,他通晓语言文字学,就是对八股文也很有研究,同时他又能诗善画,还是古书画鉴定家,尤其精于碑帖之学。沙曼翁先生对于篆刻艺术的贡献在于他开辟了篆隶书风的新境界,开创了新面目。
