Most of the carbon fibers are made of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers, the earliest commercial products in Japan in the 1960s. Currently, several major Japanese carbon fiber producers are investing to meet the rapidly rising market demand for new markets such as aircraft, automobiles, wind turbine blades and pressure vessels. The strength of carbon fiber is 10 times higher than steel, but weighs only half the weight of aluminum. In addition the fiber material has excellent heat resistance, electrical conductivity and dimensional stability, usually with the resin material, metal and cement composite use. Japan’s largest three carbon fiber producers account for about the world
