The Victorian County History is the UK’s most famous series of large local history books since the late 19th century. Its compilation groups have undergone a change from amateur historians to professional historians. This is closely related to the overall development of modern and contemporary British history and the progress of British local history. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, as British historiography was still in the process of specialization, the local history lacked the awareness of modern historiography and the independence of disciplines. Therefore, compilation of the series was mainly led by amateur historians. By the 1930s, However, with the establishment of professional historiography with traditional history as the main body, the books transferred to the University of London were scorned by professional historians. After World War II, with the revolution of western historiography, the British local history grew into an independent branch of historiography Compiled by the professional historian and then fully helm.
