An intense,low emittance,short pulse heavy ion beam is required for heavy ion inertial fusion (HIF) driver.The requirements for HIF drivers have not been achieved and various approaches are studied to satisfy the requirements.Typical ions of interest are singly or doubly charged high-mass (200～) ions.We have been studied a laser ion source (LIS) for low-charge state ion production [1,2,3].In a LIS,a solid state target is irradiated by a high-power pulsed laser to produce a laser-ablation plasma.
