A spectrally tunable LED light source with high color rendering index (CRI) and color temperature (CT) ranged from 1800K to 12000K is implemented by 4-color LEDs. Quite different from minimizing the mean-squared-error (MSE) which we used before, the algorithm proposed is based on maximizing the color rendering index. Thus, the spectra synthesized from blackbody 1800K to 18000K by the selected 4-color LEDs with high CRI are suitable for realizing spectrally tunable LED light sources which are the core of the smart lighting in the near future.
