The performance of reverse osmosis (RO) is strongly affected by the coupled mass transfer process of water and salt in the membrane channel.Due to the convective movement of water toward the membrane surface, salt is brought to the membrane surface and a layer of higher salt concentration forms in the vicinity of the membrane surface[1].This phenomenon in the membrane separation is generally termed as concentration polarization.Concentration polarization adversely affects RO by reducing water flux and possibly increasing the passage of the salt.
