INTRODUCTION This work presents a three-dimensional(3D)model to study the rotation and dissection of budding yeast trapped in a microfluidic structure. An 8-μm-height bowl-shaped structure with an orifice of 3 μm width at downstream(Fig 1A)was designed to simulate the hydrodynamic force acting on an ellipsoidal cell(Fig 1B).As a result, the daughter cell would be rotated into the orifice and forced downstream. Then it can be removed by hydrodynamic force at a designate flow rate. Finally, the function of the developed model was verified by a set of experiments. This structure with two columns can be potentially used for cell aging studies [1].
