Our previous study indicated catenin alpha-like 1 (CTNNAL1), a member of catenin family, might participate in maintaining the integrity of the airway epithelium.This study is to investigate the effect of CTNNAL1 on proliferation and adhesion of HBECs, as well as on expression of some adhesion molecules.Silenced plasmid was constructed and transfected into HBECs.The expression of CTNNAL1 mRNA and protein were significantly decreased in pGCsilencedU6/Neo/RFP/CTNNAL1-RNAi stably transfected HBECs.FCM results demonstrated that silenced-expression of CTNNAL1 decreased the (G2+S)/G1 of cell cycle by 38.2%.MTT results showed that the silenced-expression of CTNNAL1 can reduce the rate of the matrix adhesion with HBECs and the mRNA expression of E-cadherin.The percentage of inflammatory cell adhesion with HBECs and the mRNA expression of ICAM-1 were increased which were detected by FCM.Our result indicate that CTNNAL1 could increase the proliferation of HBECs, strengthen matrix adhesion and the expression of E-cadherin, and decline the inflammatory cell adhesion to HBECs and the expressions of ICAM-1.(This work is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 30800504).
