Drying shrinkage deformation of cement-based materials is very important and closely related to the durability of the material.Due to the non-uniform deformation, the drying shrinkage displacement in cement-based materials determined by using conventional methods was only the average displacement of a specimen. To better investigate the shrinkage behavior of cement-based materials, digital image correlation (DIC) method was proposed to evaluate the local drying shrinkage displacement in the specimen.DIC is an optical metrology based on digital image processing and numerical computing, and can be extended to two dimensional digital image correlation (2D-DIC) or three dimensional digital image correlation (3D-DIC).2D-DIC can only determine in-plane displacement of a specimen. However, both in-plane and out-of-plane displacement can be obtained by using 3D-DIC.
