BSw21516BT isolate,a Gram-negative,non-motile,non-spore-forming,psychrotolerant and halotolerant bacterium, was obtained from seawater in Kongsfjorden,a glacial fjord in the Arctic Svalbard;this isolate was then subjected to taxonomic analysis using a polyphasic approach This isolate exhibited characteristics of a coccobacillus that reduces nitrate to nitrite. This isolate could optimally grow at 25 ℃ to 29 ℃;likewise, this isolate could grow at 4 and 34 ℃ but could not grow at > 35 ℃.This isolate could also grow in the presence of 0%to 8%(w/v)NaCl at an optimum concentration of 2%to 5%(w/v)NaCl.BSw21516BT isolate was chemotaxonomically characterized, revealing ubiquinone-8(Q-8)as a predominant respiratory lipoquinone.Predominant cellular fatty acids were C18:1ω9c and summed feature 3(C16:1ω7cand/or iso-C15:0 2-OH).The G+C content of DNA was 44.2 mol%.Maximum-likelihood phylogenetie analysis of 16S rRNA and gyrB gene sequences showed that this isolate belonged to the genus Psychrobacter;this isolate was also closely related to P.fozii LMG 21280T,which was isolated from a sediment sample in Antarctica.DNADNA hybridization revealed 58.6%identity between BSw21516BT isolate and P.fozii LMG 21280T.Results indicated that this isolate can be assigned as a novel Psychrobacter species. The proposed name of this isolate is Psychrobacter fjordensis sp.nov.(type strain BSw21516BT =KCTC 42279T=CCTCC AB 2014020T).
