Recent advances in crystalline silicon (c-Si) photovoltaics were made possible by the development of several key enabling processes and materials. One such key technology, which is currently transferred into cell production world-wide, is the surface passivation by aluminum oxide (Al2O3), which has been demonstrated to lead to an unparalleled level of surface passivation on p-as well as n-type silicon.
