The brown marmorated stink bug,Halyomorpha halys(St(a)l)(Hemiptera: Pentatomidae)has a very broad host range and is a serious pest of many fruit,nut,and fruiting vegetable crops.Native to China,Republic of Korea,DPR Korea and Japan,it has been introduced into the United States,Canada,Liechtenstein,Switzerland,Germany,Franc,Italy,Hungary and Greece in recent years.In some of the newly invaded countries,classical biological control of H.halys using efficient and host specific natural enemies from their original areas is considered as an important strategy for sustainable pest management.Field surveys in northern China revealed that Trissolcus japonicus(Hymenoptera: Scelionidae)is the most abundant parasitoid of the pest,accounting 75.2%of the total parasitism(66.4%).This result led to further investigation of the range of T.japonicus to evaluate its potential as a biocontrol agent.No-choice tests were conducted in the laboratory with a wide variety of non-target Pentatomidae while H.halys was used as control.Preliminary results showed that T.japonicus had a fairly broad host range and was able to develop on Plautia fimbriata,Menida violacea,Carbula eoa and the predatory species Arma chinensis.
