Distribution of drugs to the central nervous system(CNS) is one of the most important aspects in the current therapies of brain disease.In past years,many different strategies have been prosposed as a way to deliver drugs from the blood to the brain.A promising strategy that takes into account the expression of endogenous transporters in the brain capillary endothelia,such as glucose transporter 1(GLUT1)and Na+-dependent Vitamin C transporter(SVCT2),have been investigated.Our previous studies have indeed demonstrated that glucosylated derivatives of drugs,especially substituted at the C-6 position,exhibited high affinity for GLUT1.
