Noise-induced entrainment of human brain waves is reported.It is widely known that the alpha oscillation in human EEG is synchronized to a periodic train of flash under conditions of appropriate brightness and frequency.Recently,we have successfully demonstrated that a stochastic resonance phenomenon is emerged in the central nerve systems or visual cortex [1]:Periodic and noisy phofic stimuli are respectively applied to a right and a left eye of a subject separately.When the periodic stimulus is applied with a sub-threshold condition and the amplitude of noise stimulus of which frequency bandwidth ranges from 15 to 60 Hz is varied,strong entrainment occurs for certain range of the noise amplitude.Then the curve for the amplitude of the peak against the noise amplitude shows a bell-type shape,i.e.the maximum signal amplitude at an optimum noise.The phenomenon is in particular appeared clearly at occipital visual cortex,thus the resonance emerges on the visual processing regions.
