Asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia cv.Niitaka) peel is a by-product remained during juice processing and is a good source for arbutin,a polyphenol, having whitening effect at skin.Arbutin could be a good raw material for functional cosmetics if it was extracted efficiently from the pear peel. The objective of this study was to investigate the optimum extraction conditions for arbutin from Asian pear peel by SFE using response surface methodology (RSM) based on Box-Behnken surface statistical design.Arbutin was extracted using co-solvent,methanol and ethanol at different co-solvent concentration (22-30%),extraction pressure (250-300 atm),and extraction temperature (30-60 ℃).
