Over the past decade various super-resolution techniques (SR) have been developed. One of the core issues of these techniques is to develop suitable fluorophores to get higher spatial-temporal resolution.Photoactivatable fluorescent proteins (PAFPs) have found specific applications in SR imaging.Three classes of PAFPs can be used for SR techniques: dark-to-bright photoactivators (PAFPs), irreversible photoconverters (PCFPs), and reversible highlighters (RSFP).Several PAFPs with optimized photochemical properties, which developed by us for PALM/STORM, SOFI, and other SR techniques, will be discussed.
