Emissions from gas flaring have rarely been considered in global/regional emissioninventories.Flaring is a widely used approach of discharging and disposing of gaseous and liquidhydrocarbons through combustion at oil and gas production sites including oil wells, gas wells, offshore oil and gas rigs and landfills. As the country that flares the largest quantity of associatedpetroleum gas,Russia's gas flaring emissions have been rarely evaluated especially for blackcarbon emission due to incomplete combustion.Black carbon plays a unique role in the Arcticclimate system due to its multiple climatic effects.
