Alkali-aggregate reaction (AAR) is a chemical reaction between the alkaline compounds in cement paste with certain constituents in the aggregate in the presence of water.A large number of concrete bridges around the world are affected by deterioration induced by AAR.CFRP is a modem solution to enhance the strength and the ductility of concrete damaged by AAR.This paper reports a preliminary study of the effect of AAR on the mechanical properties of concrete and an investigation of the effectiveness of using CFRP in one and two layers to wrap cylinderical concrete specimens with a specified time of wrapping at six months of age.Thirty six cylindrical specimens and 26 prismatic specimens were fabricated from normal and reactive concrete which contained fused silica of 7.5% of total aggregate.
