It is increasingly recognized that air-sea CO2 flux and carbon budget in continental margins represent an important knowledge gap in global carbon cycling research. In the east coast of the North America, until very recently, the US Mid-Atlanta Bight is the only shelf that annual air-sea CO2 flux was measured (by Takahashi,DeGrandpre et al.).While this shelf acts as a moderate-to-strong sink of atmospheric CO2,its overall carbon flux to the open ocean is not known. The central part of the South Atlantic Bight (SAB) was reported as a source of CO2 to the atmosphere as a result of decomposition of organic matter exported from rivers and the productive salt marshes.
