The lutetium orthophosphate is an interesting host lattice for rare-earth activators. It has a high density(6.53 cm3)and high effective atomic number(59.73),which make it attractive even for scintillation purposes.Large energy band gap(8.7 eV)and good thermal stability further enhances their attractiveness for luminescence materials. Finally, large interatomic distances, which leads to a reduced concentration quenching is a positive property too.
