Little progress has been made in the war against cancer in the past four decades.Cancer is a highly heterogeneous and complex disease that involves genetic and epigenetic changes through highly integrated pathways that are often redundant and compensatory.The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) funded by the U.S.National Cancer Institute and National Human Genome Research Institute plans to develop a complete "atlas" of all genomic alterations involved in 20 to 25 major cancer types.Highgrade serous ovarian cancer is among the first two cancer types that have been comprehensively mapped.
