The authors have been conducting an international project-based learning(PBL)under their universitys official curriculum and analyzed online communication during PBL collaboration among Asian university students. In their previous research, they surveyed from the perspective of Japanese students. They collected data how the students collaborated online by interviews to Japanese students, and analyzed collected data using Community of Inquiry(CoI)framework that incorporates notions of three presences: social, cognitive and teaching presences. In this study, the authors further observe students online communication, and consider how such communication should be analyzed and how teachers should intervene in students online communication.Online collaboration is now considered to be a skill that students should obtain; hence, such observations and interventions would be necessary to foster students skills in this area.Teachers supports would be provided according to the status of online communication, students characteristics, and so on.The methods to observe the students online communication and guideline for the intervention are discussed.
