Aim: To evaluate somatic illnesses of female-committed suicide in Lithuania and specify characteristic features of them.Methods: The psychological autopsy of 296 female-committed suicides was carried out in 2003.The stages of the psychological autopsy: 1.Analysis of Forensic examination; 2.Analysis of Pre-trail documents; 3.Analysis of Out-patients and In-patients documents from institutions for mental health; 4.Analysis of Out-patients documents from Primary medical health care institutions; 5.Analysis of In-patients documents from institutions for somatic health.Mental disorders were diagnosed using ICD-10 criteria for research.Somatic illnesses were diagnosed by ICD-10.Results: The psychological autopsy showed that 57.4% suicide victims had serious somatic problems (SSP).Somatic problems had direct, strong relation with female age (rho=0.758, N=16, p=0.000).The peak of somatic problems for females was over 65 years-old.One somatic problem was found for 68.6% of SSP group and two or more diseases in 31.2% of that group.Neurological diseases made the largest part of somatic problems-69.9% (of SSP group), cardiological diseases made 24.7%, musculoskeletal system and connective tissue problems-17.1%, neoplasms-10.0%.Females with neurological diseases suffered from cerebrovascular disorders (I60-67)-45.8%, polyneuropathies and other disorders ofthe peripheral nervous system (G61-63)-20.3%, injuries of the head (S06)-18.6%, epilepsies (G40)-5.9% and other disorders.Females with cardiological problems mainly suffered from ischaemic heart diseases (I20-25)-12.4% and hypertensive diseases (I 10-15)-10.0%.Arthrosis (M 15-19) and osteoporosis (M80, 81) dominated among musculoskeletal system and connective tissue problems89.7%, breast neoplasms (C50) dominated among oncological diseases-41.2%.Females with SSP had big problems with mental health: major part was neurotic and stress related disorders (F00-09)-47.6%, the next one organic mental disorders (F00-09)-41.8%, the third-mental disorders due to psychoactive substance use (F10-19)-27.6%, the forthmood disorders (F30-39)-23.5% and other disorders.The disablement state was assessed to 29.4% female with SSP.Prevailing reason of disablement state in this group was neurological problems-44.0%, the next was mental disorders-28.0%.A more detailed analysis of somatic and mental disorders will be given during presentation.Conclusion: More than half female-committed suicides had serious somatic problems.The largest part of them was damaged of neurological diseases, which were the main causes of disablement states.The common co-morbidity of somatic disorders were with stress-related and organic mental disorders.
