A Gram-negative,aerobic,short rod-shaped,non-endospore-forming,pale-pigmented and non-motile bacterium,designated as BUT-5T,was isolated from activated sludge of a herbicides-manufacturing wastewater treatment facility in Jiangsu province,China.The major fatty acids (>5 ％) were C18:1ω7c,C16:0 and C18:12-OH.The predominant respiratory quinone was ubiquinone Q-10.
