It has been recognized that shaping of multicellular body plan,the maintenance and repair of adult tissues,require fine tuning of cell adhesion and transmission of mechanical load from cell to extracellular matrix (ECM) and cell to cell.Talin and α-catenin,two cytoplasmic proteins,links F-actin cytoskeleton to cell-ECM and cell-cell junction adhesions,respectively,and are subject to myosin contractile forces.Binding of talin and α-catenin to another protein vinculin plays important roles in regulation of the cell-ECM and cell-cell adhesions,which has been shown to be dependent on force.
