During past years,the usage of herbal medicines has expanded globally due to changes of lifestyles and prevalence of chronic diseases.The concept of one drug for one target for one disease was replaced by the idea of combination therapy such as herbal medicines with multicompounds on multi-targets.Herbal medicines,however,are complex mixtures consisting of thousands of compounds.Safety and efficacy as well as quality control of herbal medicines have become important concerns for both health authorities and the public.As pointed out by WHO,the knowledge about the chemical compositions,pharmacokinetics,pharmacodynamics and metabolomics of herbal medicines are far from sufficient to meet the criteria needed to support s use worldwide.
