As for a low aspect ratio rudder, 6 layup composite methods are proposed, and then modal analysis is carried out for each method.Conclusion is made that the 0 ° layup direction is the main direction which influences the rudder stiffness and compared with Titanium the use of composite apparently enhances the first two orders vibration mode of the rudder and meanwhile greatly reduces the modal masses.
