How do we make sense of the sounds we hear? Somewhere in our auditory system,there is a transformation from sound to meaning,which includes multiple steps from an initial,faithful encoding of spectrotemporal acoustic pattern to further stages where the auditory scene is analyzed,relevant auditory objects are segregated,recognized,categorized and associated with task or context-specific behavioral meaning and appropriate responses.
