A number of genetic polymorphisms have widely been investigated in population studies for their effects on breast cancer risk, but the association results are inconsistent.Meta-analysis is a useful tool to increase the statistical power to detect gene-disease associations and may provide a summary estimation in detecting and addressing potential inconsistency among the combined datasets.Our group recently carried out meta-analyses on common polymorphisms of TP53 (tumor protein p53) and CYP17 (cytochrome P450 17a hydroxylase) in association with breast cancer risk.
