The non protein-coding RNAs(ncRNAs) comprise a substantial portion of transcribed sequences that have structural,regulatory,or unknown functions.NcRNAs could be classified by its length as small RNA(sRNAs) which are less than 200 nucleotides,such as microRNAs(miRNAs),and long non-coding RNA(lncRNAs) which are longer than 200 nucleotides(nt) in general.Recently,the growing reports showed that the ncRNAs functions in virtually every aspect of biology in both animals and plants,but only few studies on the ncRNA associated with grain yield and reproduction were reported.In this talk,I will focus on the identification and functional study of miRNAs and lncRNAs involved in rice grain yield and reproduction,and discuss their molecule mechanisms underlined.Two major results will be presented:(1) Identifications and functional studies of miRNAs regulating plant seed size and male sterility;(2) systematical identification of the plant lncRNAs associated with sexual reproduction.
