Autophagy, a homeostatic cellular recycling system via lysosomal degradation process, is responsible for removing unnecessary cellular organelles and proteins and, more importantly, protecting cells from metabolic stress.Accumulating evidence support that autophagy plays a critical role in regulating survival and death signaling pathways during cancer development. However, autophagy as a target for the discovery ofanticancer drugs is still controversial.
