Depending on the geological conditions, levels of natural radionuclides up to 100 Bq/L are observed in fluids of geo-hydrothermal plants.For some plants the origin of these nuclides, their chemical composition in the fluids and their deposition on components of the plant system were studied.In the fluid the radium isotopes 226Ra, 228Ra, 224Ra, the lead isotope 210Pb and the potassium isotope 40K occur primarily.Radioactive alpha-decay recoil processes on the surfaces of the rocks are a major source of radium in the fluid.The specific activities of radioactive deposits on scales can reach values up to several 100 Bq/g.During operation of the plant and for the disposal of accumulated waste, the rules and regulations of radiation protection must be considered.
