Mandarin vole (Lasiopodomys mandarinus) is a small-sized subterranean rodent and a laboratory animal model using in the study about subterranean hypoxic stress on mammals.This rodent must have evolved remarkable physiological adaptations to subterranean hypoxic stress.In this study,we reported the first complete mitochondrial genome of L.mandarinus.(Genbank access NO.JX014233) and investigated its gene content and organization.We also analyzed the phylogenetic position of L.mandarinus within the Rodentia and other mammals.Our results showed that the mitochondrial genome of L.mandarinus was a circular molecule of 16367bp,and had a typical gene content of 13 protein coding,22 tRNAs and 2 rRNAs genes,which are highly conserved among most rodents.Except for the eight tRNA and one ND6 genes,all other MT genes are encoded on the heavy strand.We analyzed the phylogenetic position of L.mandarinus within the Rodentia and other mammals by using the sequence of 13 protein coding genes connected together,and also analyzed its phylogenetic position with the genus Microtus by using the Cytb gene.Our phylogenetic study proved that L.mandarinus was one of the subspecies of Lasiopodomys.And the Lasiopodowys should be retained as a separated genus of Arvicolinae.The phylogenetic analysis also gave a further evidence of Rodents monophyly.
