Bridge expansion joints require inspection and maintenance throughout their lives,and replacement at the end of these lives,and these activities result in considerable costs to the bridge owner and impacts on traffic while the works are carried out.This paper examines how such costs and impacts can be minimised by the careful selection of a suitable expansion joint solution when such works are required.
