Spatial Competition Confronted by Qingdao Logistics Development

  Logistics,which is composed of transportation,storing,packing,loading and unloading,processing and allotment etc,is an integrated flow of goods from the producing site to the consuming site.Logistics is a new service industry which is developed by the continuing social division and can promote the development of regional economy.This paper first constructs an international logistics model,trying to explore the mechanism and the general law of logistics process.The contrast of the harbor—hinterland relations between QINGDAO,TIANJIN and DALIAN,three harbors along the BOHAI economic circle,demonstrates that Qingdao’s logistics development is being confronted with the competition from TIAJIN,northern China,and FUSHAN,south Korea,respectively.Secondly,owing to lack of an direct passage from Qingdao harbor to the central and western China,Qingdao harbor’s hinterland is being encroached by TIANJIN and NANJING harbor,which are located along the BOHAI circle and CHANGJIANG valley respectively,which causes that Qingdao’s logistics development is poorly supported by a contracted hinterland which is a potential restricting factor to the development of Qingdao’s logistics industry.Qingdao must make full use of its advantages in harbor location,depth of the coastal sea water,harbor facilities,logistics enterprises and the spatial scope of hinterland,to establish a logistics complex integrated by harbor,warehouse,shipment,railway and express way etc,by the advocate of local government.Secondly,Qingdao should try to ameliorate the harbor’s collecting and distributing facilities,by cooperating with the central government or its ministry in local infrastructure construction.For an example,by cooperating with the railway ministry,Qingdao should try to construct ZHUCHENG----HUANGDAO sub—railway,opening up a direct passage to the central and western China,and establish some container transfer stations in its hinterland,such as in HENAN,SHANXI and GANSU provinces,which can extend the harbor’s functions to its hinterland and attract more exported goods from the hinterlands.Finally,Qingdao should make full use of the capital home and abroad to build the container terminals rapidly in the QIANWAN port,making Qingdao an efficiently—operating hub harbor,which is composed of QINGDAO port and HUANGDAO/QIANWAN port.
