Hydrogenation of bio-oil at mild condition with Ti-modified Ru/SBA-15 catalyst

  For the limit on emission of carbon dioxide and nitrous oxides by environmental protection requirement,producing liquid fuels from renewable,CO2-neutral,and abundant biomass has attracted more and more attention.Fast pyrolysis is an effective and relatively mature technology to produce bio-oil,a reasonable and prospective candidate to substitute fossil fuels.However,the high corrosivity,low heating value and low thermal stability of bio-oil make it difficult to be used as high-quality fuels directly.Hydrogenation is one of the most effective methods for bio-oil upgrading.In this paper,Ti-modified Ru/SBA-15 catalysts have been developed aiming at the conversion bio-oil to more stable alcohols fuel additive under mild conditions.In the hydrogenation of model compounds and bio-oil in aqueous solution,the Ti-modified Ru/SBA-15 catalysts exhibited superior catalytic performance and stability to the Ti-free catalyst.After hydrogenation at 170 oC with Ru/TiO2-SBA-15 in aqueous solution,the pH of bio-oil solution was increased and the main compounds were alcohols.The Ru/SBA-15 and Ru/TiO2-SBA-15 catalysts were studied by N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms,XRD,TEM,TPR,ICP,and XPS spectroscopy.
