Microcystins (MCs) are the most common type of phycotoxins that are eutrophic in freshwater bodies. With the aggravation of eutrophication, the pollution is more and more serious. MCs have multiple toxicities and are mainly transported, absorbed and accumulated in the liver. In recent years, studies have found that MCs have reproductive and developmental toxicity. There has been a great deal of research on the toxic effects of MCs on the liver, but less research has been done on its toxicity to reproductive development. This review summarizes the current research on the status of MCs pollution in water and food and its harm to reproductive development.
