The sarcomeric Z-discs form a physical boundary between sarcomeres and participate in intracellular signaling, transcriptional regulation, myofibrillogenesis and cardiac differentiation.The aim of our study was to discover abnormalities in the genes encoding Z-disc proteins and to elucidate the underlying molecular and pathogenetic mechanisms of inherited forms of cardiomyopathy (CM) including dilated (DCM), hypertrophic (HCM), restrictive (RCM), left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) and arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC).
