Properties such as the foam volume, half-life and fluid rheology of an oil-based drilling fluid were measured to evaluate the fluids foam stability and drilling performance.The results showed that the key factors influencing the performance of the oil-based foam drilling fluid are the base liquid, foaming agents,stabilizers, and surfactants.The foaming agent provides foam stability and is necessary for air/oil surface adsorption, low surface tension and good film viscoelasticity.The oil-based drilling fluid has low-density foam,low fluid loss, a good sealing effect, anti-high temperature capabilities, and good salt and contamination resistance.
