Bioethanol can be produced from nearly any readily available sugar or starch based cropssuch as corn, wheat, rice.Enzyme technology is broadly applied in various configurations of commercial process.Efforts in enzyme R&D are continued to squeeze the unexplored value in starch to ethanol. To sustain the sugar source for bioethanol, processing of lignocellulosic biomass, the most abundant material on the earth, has been researched as alternative feedstock for ethanol production. After years of intensive study, the enzyme and process technology is now ready for commercialization of cellulosic ethanol-and farsighted companies are pushing ahead with bold scale-up activities.Through strong partnership engagement and collaboration over the world, Novozymes successfully launched the CellicCTec product line, to enable the commercialization of cellulosic ethanol at the lowest total production cost.A few successful cases will be shared to illustrate how the right sweet spot of process has helped to achieve the target goals of ethanol producers.Pushed by farsighted companies with bold scale-up activities, the cellulosic ethanol is commercializing and is here to take its part in the future fuel supply.
